ESOS Phase 2

Businesses are quickly approaching the deadline to complete ESOS Phase 2. Businesses have until the 5th December 2019 to complete stage 2 of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

A compulsory government scheme aimed to lower energy consumption of large businesses operating in the UK. The Government has set out to reduce the usage by 20% by the year 2020, having introduced the scheme in July 2014.

Compliance with the second phase of the scheme must be completed and reported to the Environment Agency by the 5th December 2019. Requirements for businesses include those that operate with 250 employees or more. Have generated both, a revenue greater than €50 million, and have an annual balance sheet greater than €43 million. Or, businesses that are a part of a larger organisation that falls into either of these categories.

If a qualifying business doesn’t meet the deadline; it will receive a basic fine of £50,000, and additional fines of £800 per day, up to a maximum of 80 days.
